I was going to go to sleep but I got distracted looking for neat Mac applications.

This is not fun. [16 May 2006|08:53pm]
I LEARNED SOMETHING TODAY.

All prom dresses fall into two categories: cakes and fish.

Why am I doing this? (Answer: I am doing this because of peer pressure.)

Cheerily boring story about being abducted by the neighborhood kids [08 May 2006|02:07pm]
Yesterday I biked to the lake (The people after me for Water Wars must not care a smidge) really slowly and lazily. I spent a half hour just sitting and looking at the water and another hour just yawning around on my bike. It was fantastic. But that's not my story.

When I came home from this little excursion there were children in my driveway. Childreninmydriveway. One had a scooter and one had a purple bike. I assumed that they were just playing, because, as I know from personal experience, the driveway of the house where I live is pretty fly for scootering.

I said "Hello" and then casually biked into the garage (which also involved casually getting the garage door code wrong about six times). But they followed me.
One of them asked "Are you Sarah?" Oh. No escape now.
I recognized the girl I used to babysit for when she asked "Can we see your dog?"
So I played along and we threw frisbees and tennis balls at Comet for a while. However, these happened to be the chattiest girls ever born. So even if I had wanted to throw in a lame joke here or there, it was impossible for me to get a single word in.

My parents came home so my dog followed them inside so I figured the girls would be leaving. But alas.
"So, what are you doing now? Want to come with us?"
So I got my bike back out and accompanied them back to (APPROPRIATE NAME ALERT) Gabby's house where she proudly told her parents she had "brought home a hitchhiker!!" And then they made me play badminton and would have dragged me on another bike ride until Gabby's father saved me and told them I "probably had a lot of homework to do." Ha, sure.

I flipped a coin. Twice. Guess what happened. [25 Apr 2006|05:01pm]
Okay so I just got back from Northwestern and I adored it. I met this excellent boy from Texas and after finding out that our taste in music is practically identical, we ditched the boring program and hunted down the RADIO STATION! Which was in the basement of some building. We met the students there and they gave us a tour and free stickers and pins.

But I digress. I really liked Northwestern, for more reasons than a cute Texan (who probably isn't going there anyway), but I'm worried that I'd only be choosing it because it was the last school I saw and because everyone at Northwestern was all "NOOO DON'T GO TO TUFTS IT IS ICKY." I don't put much trust in my memory.

So I have approximately 127 hours to choose: Northwestern or Tufts.

So comment with your opinion and give me a reason. It doesn't have to be an extremely good reason.

My mom accidentally sent one of my Broken Social Scene CDs to Netflix instead of the DVD we were supposed to return.

!sad [09 Apr 2006|07:30pm]
I'm setting my entries that could be described as "sad" to private because I know Tom or someone would make some snarky comment.

So I will instead redirect you to cheer in a language I don't understand! The one with the mayhem-flowers is my favorite. Brought to you from the depths of my bookmarks.

Do not read this if you don't want to read about crew. [08 Apr 2006|06:08pm]
[crew-speak]
Thus ends my second most hellish week of crew ever.

Mark decided to put buckets in both boats on Wednesday, so ever since Wednesday I've been washing out like it is expected of me. Coach told me it looked like I "forgot how to row."
Now I'm on second boat.
Monday I'm rowing with JV. I'm really happy to maybe get away from all the tension and enjoy myself. First is always intensely varsity all the way, and third is "isolationist" and just wants to have fun, so it seems like second is the disjointed grey area and I hate it. I feel kind of alienated and useless on second, more so than I do on first. I would much rather party it up with third.
[/crew-speak]

Yesterday I was sort of snubbed by the crew kids because I react badly to failure. So I was extra-happy to play poker at Teddy's. Really the most fun I've had in a long long time.

asocial life // it's over [01 Apr 2006|10:26pm]
I don't know what I want. Well, that's not true, I want to stand in the middle of an open space and scream.

Will I always be this socially inept, always treating everyone equally terribly? Having nothing to say to some, and not saying anything (for whatever reason) to the rest?

No no no no I am not going to complain anymore. I will keep my shit to myself 'cause I figure that's appreciated.

In other news,
my final tally )

Pursuit [25 Mar 2006|09:56pm]
Last night I dreamt that I was trying out for the school musical, some Disney thing, and I was going to be the leading female! I could sing and act.

Then I woke up and had practice. Four times ten minutes of extreme burning PAIN as you watch the grains of wood on the wall float toward you and float away in a 4-to-1 ratio. Or keep your eyes closed and estimate the time left. Or actually concentrate on your erg technique, ha.

And the only CD anyone ever thinks to bring to the boathouse is the Killers. Fuck that. I put on the Go! team last week and everyone (Brooke) gave me funny looks. FINE.
I finished the extra 10min piece when everyone else did 6min. Extra-credit pain! Felt empowered.

But then I just felt tired. The rest of the day was devoted to eating and reading and nothing in particular. I am biking tomorrow like it's my job.

I found this while I was looking for psychopong (2nd from the bottom). Go to "sky" (2nd from the top).
There. Now you know the one thing I would most like to do.

Come on apathy [20 Mar 2006|06:49pm]
I'm impressed how at the end of this mess I'll have managed a year of elementary school, two years of junior high and four years of high school in CT and I'll have come away without a single close friend.

Oh well. Pie Bill Gates.

The crew and college gods smile upon me. [27 Feb 2006|03:18pm]
Saturday was the Crash-B sprints at Agganis Arena at Boston U, and it was surprisingly fantastic. Any outsider would look at the crowds of crewies and 60-odd rowing machines in the stadium and say "Okay YOU ARE RACING ON EXERCISE EQUIPMENT."

It's kind of like racing treadmills.
Except there's announcers and medals and everything. Competitors fly in from all over the world and there's world record holders racing and such.

I raced with the Junior Women's Lightweights and who did I find but my favorite college kid, Sam Bair! She coxed me, along with some incredibly cute college coxswain guy. I do dearly love crewies. I also saw Renee, my old coach and we did about .08 seconds of reminiscing until she had to continue up the stadium stairs and I watched Sam's race.

As for my race, I held a 2:06 split and beat my time from last year by 3 seconds with an 8:24.2. Not bad considering my lack of practice. I'm ecstatic over this.
I absolutely am determined to break 8:00 this year. I say that every year but this year IS. MY. YEAR.

That excellent Saturday was completed with a long telephone conversation with Jason from my Overland bike trip '04. We made fun of each other and renewed our vow that we're all gonna reunite someday and do the American Challenge.

The other day I decided to put Meadowlands by the Wrens in my car CD player because I needed it. Completely at random today I decided to listen to the CD and not my ipod on my way home, and it made me think about how I heard some guy blasting the same CD from his dorm room when I visited Macalester, which in turn made me think of the awesome guy with the Radiohead poster there, which in turn made me think of how they all get together to watch the Daily Show and how I'd really not mind going to college in Minnesota even if it is a very small school.

And after I came home my mom brought in the mail and I got a "We picked you early" acceptance letter there. Unexpected!
